No doubt, dude! I'm going to be road tripping up there in the spring with a few other peeps. We'll have to hang out, man!

It was a beautiful 67F outside today, and I took advantage of the generous weather to get a few things done.

Since Siobhan is bound for the race track, I started pulling some non-essential parts.

I pulled the rear seat, removed the seat belt receivers then got all the tar off.

I pulled the rear parcel shelf (JBL speakers and all) and got the tar off of the deck there as well.

Tomorrow I'll use Xylene to get the tar residue off of the rear deck and the seat bench. Then I'll see if I'm brave enough to go looking for rust underneath the main carpet. And I know there is some waiting for me...

          Thanks man :)

Unfortunately, further pulling of the carpet & insulation revealed substantially more problems:

I do not yet own a welder. I have never welded. This means I am going to need some help from someone who knows what the heck they are doing. Perhaps I should just find a cleaner shell, but I am really attached to this car... Any thoughts? Ballpark estimates on having these areas patched. It does not need to be a show car; this is, after all, my track car. But I DO want it to have a solid chassis... The strut towers are clean, the frame rails appear to be clean... Floor pans suck.

Bob Buxbaum, mechanic extraordinaire swung by the house today and took a look at the rust n Siobhan, and said 'no problem. I'll take that to the house in a couple of weeks and fix that right up in a couple of hours.' I had planned to ask him if I could borrow his trailer to tow it up to Ross's house (and thanks again, Ross!), but instead, the car will stay local and get fixed up! Thanks Bob!

I started pulling extraneous wiring today, and boy was it janky!

And then I popped a little bling on her for funsies. This is not the final version of the sticker, and I'm not sure I'll even put one on the hood, but I thought I might as well mess with placement. I'm a sucker for Endurance Racing stuff, and wanted a riff on the Zurich Nurburgring 24hr Stickers. My friend Travis designed this, and although we've tweaked the design, I am really psyched! Am I a geek? Yes sir!!

'Zellich' rather than 'Zurich' because it's my last name :)

It's beautiful outside today, so I thought I'd do a little more work on Siobhan.

Here's how the front sits currently

Can't wait to start pulling extraneous wiring :)

Started removing the C-Pillar insulation and the headliner & roof insulation

I won't pull the sunroof cartridge until it's time to throw the cage in the back, as I don't want to weaken the structure of the roof until I have the cage to balance that out.

                  More soon!

Hey, thank man! I'm kind of on hold for a few weeks, since this is my crazy-busy time at work. But in January, neat new things will be happening!! Stay tuned...

You have no idea how insanely excited I am to bring the car to you for a cage!!!!
Do you know what gauge steel I need for the floor pans? Bob's going to weld them up for me in town, but I need to figure out what gauge steel to get. Looking like I'm on track for the cage in February!

Just ordered the AKG poly E30/24V swap mounts. I've been using the E28 ones, but I've seen (online) many stories of failures of those parts. And given that this is going to be a track car primarily, I figure it makes sense to spend the $200 on them. Beats the heck out of having to pay for the damage that can be caused by having the mounts fail, or losing track time when they fail.

Also bought a set of front swaybar reinforcement plates to be welded on. Rather overbuilt than under!!

A couple of other things are headed my way...I want to run manual windows up front, so I can eliminate a bunch of wiring. I'll be yanking the wiring for the power locks/central locking, speaker wiring, power window wiring and power mirror wiring, among others things. The rear windows I'll just leave non-op, but for the fronts, I have ordered manual window regulators through my main man & parts pusher, Levent at Guten Parts. They had to come from Germany, but should be here soon.

I also procured another (and maybe the filthiest ever) oil pan, to replace the one on Showy now. I hadn't mentioned it previously, but I cracked it a few weeks ago. And a week later, I cracked the one on my DD, too. Ugh.

                              More soon!
